Convenient course scheduling
All master’s level courses are offered in Rochester and Buffalo on a one-night-a-week schedule with students attending classes from 6-10 p.m. The
specific night (Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday) differs with the cohort group and year of study. Field education and spiritual
formation groups meet at regular intervals throughout the semester within the regular class frame. In addition to class time,
students average 16 hours of pre- and post-class research, reading, and writing assignments per course credit. Thus, students average 20 hours each week of course-related work. Part-time (non-matriculated) students and area pastors with accredited
bachelor’s degrees are welcome to take any of the Monday evening elective courses.
Spiritual Formation
Personal spiritual formation is an essential at NES. All matriculated students participate in a Faith Sharing Group during the Core
(first year to two years, depending on degree program), and attend a spiritual retreat at the beginning of their seminary studies. M.Div. students have required courses in
spiritual formation and pastoral formation in their third and fourth years of study. D.Min. students are involved in group
spiritual direction practice.
